Tohu Whenua advertisements

Print and digital campaign advertisements

Tohu Whenua are the places that have shaped Aotearoa New Zealand. Located in stunning landscapes and rich with stories, they offer some of our best heritage experiences.

My aim in creating designs for Tohu Whenua was to encourage tourism, and highlight the experiences to be had at the heritage sites.

The branding elements included the patterned crosses which symbolises the kiekie (New Zealand native vine plant) stitches in Māori weaving. This is paired with engaging photography, typography and layout.

I worked closely with Caroline Toplis, Programme Manager Tohu Whenua on a variety of display banners, magazine advertisements, social media graphics, PowerPoint and presentations.

“Michael really embraced the kaupapa of Tohu Whenua and has contributed strongly to the development of the brand.  He has applied his understanding of culture and heritage values in a tourism context to help us tell stories through advertising, letting our great imagery shine while ensuring our messaging remains strong and works effectively in different contexts. Michael is responsive and open minded but knows what works and produces quality work in a short timeframe. He has a great sense of humour and is a pleasure to work with.”
